Plans to Restart and Renew the Housing Market
The Housing Secretary has recently delivered a statement about how to safely restart, reopen and renew the housing market since the enforced “lockdown” earlier this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During this period, he said, more than 450,000 buyers had to put their moving plans on hold, causing disruption and serious implications across the country for those wishing to buy, sell and move properties.
The Housing Secretary announced that with immediate effect:
- Estate agents’ offices can re-open
- Viewings – whether virtual or in person – are permitted
- Show homes can open
- Removal companies and the other essential parts of the sales and letting process can restart
The Government have published their advice on home moving during the coronavirus (COVID-10) outbreak (read advice here) which details the procedures that should be followed to ensure safety at all times by staying alert, containing the virus and saving lives. Whilst the reopening of the housing market is welcome news, it will take time to return to normality and the process of finding and moving to the right home. Procedures and practices will be different and all parties will need to be flexible as we navigate our way through the constant changes due to the pandemic.
